What are Failure Types
Failure Types are a structured way to classify what went wrong when creating a Work Request.
They help your team to:
Triage faster: Technicians instantly see the type of issue.
Assign smarter: Requests can be routed to the right team.
Spot patterns: Understand recurring failure categories across assets.
How they work:
Two-level hierarchy: e.g. Mechanical > Overheating.
Multi-select: Choose one or several Failure Types per request.
Parent–child logic: Selecting a child automatically selects its parent.
💡 Failure Types are not root-cause analysis. They’re a pragmatic way to capture failure context without requiring expert diagnosis.
Configure Failure Types
Admins can create and manage Failure Types in Asset Settings.
Go to Settings > Features > Assets > Tab Failure Types
Click "Add" to create a new failure type
If no parent is specified, the type is treated as a parent.
Child colors are automatically inherited from the parent.
Once created, a child cannot be reassigned to another parent. You have to delete and create a new failure type.Reorder items by drag & drop via the 6-dot menu
Parents and their children stay grouped.Delete via the 3-dot menu
Deleting a parent will also delete all its children.
Deleted failure types will be cleared from any Work Requests.
💡 Tip: Start with a small set of Failure Types. Add more granularity over time once your team is comfortable using them.
