Floor Plans let you attach a building layout or any overview image to an Asset and mark the exact position of its sub-Assets on it. At a glance, you can see where each Asset is located and what status it currently has.
Prerequisites
Floor Plans are available for Assets of the category Group or Area only. All Assets you want to place on the floor plan must sit below that Asset in the Asset hierarchy. Read here more about Asset Categories.
💡 Note: You can nest Floor Plans. Place an Asset (also of type Group or Area) that has its own Floor Plan as a marker on the parent Floor Plan - clicking that marker drills down into the next Floor Plan.
Uploading a Floor Plan
Open the detail page of an Asset with the category Group or Area.
In the middle section of the detail page, locate the "Floor Plan" section and click "Upload Floor Plan".
Select an image file from your computer (supported formats: JPG, PNG, and other image formats - no PDF).
The image uploads and is displayed immediately.
To replace an existing image, open the menu via the pencil icon in the section header and choose "Upload New Plan". Existing markers are preserved.
💡 Note: Floor Plans cannot be imported, the plan is created manually.
Placing Assets on the Floor Plan
Once an image is uploaded, you can mark the locations of your Assets on it.
1. Opening Edit Mode
Open the menu via the pencil icon in the section header and click Edit This Map. Alternatively, double-click any empty area of the Floor Plan image. Edit mode is indicated by a changed cursor and a Save / Cancel bar at the bottom.
2. Placing a Point Marker
In edit mode, click an empty spot on the Floor Plan image.
A marker will appear on the map. Click on it.
A popover appears. Use the dropdown to select the Asset you want to place at that location. Only Assets that are below the current Asset in the hierarchy are shown.
Click the checkmark icon to confirm the marker.
Add more Assets by repeating the steps above.
Click !Save" to persist all changes.
Markers can be repositioned by dragging them in edit mode. Clicking an existing marker opens the popover for editing or deletion.
3. Drawing an Area Marker
In edit mode, click multiple points on the Floor Plan to draw a polygon (minimum 3 vertices).
Close the polygon with pressing Enter or a double-click on the last point. Press Escape to cancel the drawing.
Select the associated Asset in the popover and confirm with the checkmark.
Click "Save".
Existing polygons can be edited via double-click: drag vertices, insert new points on an edge, or right-click a vertex to remove it.
Viewing the Floor Plan
In view mode (the default for all users), the Floor Plan displays all placed Assets with their category icon and status color. Hover over a marker to see a preview card for that Asset.
The map supports zoom and pan. Use the fullscreen icon in the top-right corner to expand the Floor Plan to fullscreen.
💡 Note: The status colors on the Floor Plan do not refresh automatically. Reload the page to see current statuses. If you want to display the Floor Plan on a large screen in the production hall, for example, you can use a browser extension that automatically refreshes the page every few seconds.
Asset Location in the Sidebar
When an Asset has been placed on a Floor Plan, its location is shown in the right sidebar on the Asset detail page, under the Location section. A preview of the parent Floor Plan is displayed there.
You can also assign an Asset to a Floor Plan directly from its own detail page:
Open the "Location" section in the right sidebar.
Click the pencil icon in the upper-right corner and select “Flor Plan” from the dropdown menu.
A pop-up window will open. From the dropdown menu there, select the Asset with the desired Floor Plan (e.g., "West Hall").
The editor will open. Place the marker and click "Save".
Filtering Assets by Floor Plan
In the Assets list, an advanced filter "Has Floor Plan" is available. Use it to quickly find all Assets that already have a Floor Plan uploaded.
Deleting a Floor Plan
Open the detail page for an Asset that has a Floor Plan associated with it.
In the middle section of the detail page, you'll see the "Floor Plan" section. Open the menu by tapping the pencil icon and select "Remove Plan".
This will delete the uploaded image and remove all markers placed on it at the same time.
💡 Note: Deleting a Floor Plan removes all Asset placements stored on it. The Assets themselves are not affected.
Best Practices
Building layout for areas and floors
A classic use case: you have an Asset of the category Area - for example, a production hall or a floor - and upload a building layout image. You then place all the machines, lines, or Assets located in that area as markers on the layout. The result is a visual overview that immediately shows where each Asset is located and what status it has.
Components of a large, complex machine or an area
Floor Plans are not limited to buildings. If you have a large, complex Asset in the Group or Area category - such as a production machine or a workstation - you can upload a photo of it as a Floor Plan and place markers on it to indicate the individual Assets or components. This makes it easy to see at a glance which part is where and what condition it is in.
FAQ
Which file formats are supported for Floor Plans?
Only image formats are supported (e.g., JPG, PNG). PDF files cannot be uploaded.
Why don't I see certain Assets in the dropdown when placing a marker?
The dropdown only shows Assets that are below the Floor Plan's Asset in the hierarchy. Assets at the same level or above are not shown. Assets that are already placed on the Floor Plan appear greyed out and cannot be selected again.
Can I display the Floor Plan on a large screen in the production area?
Yes, you can open the page on a screen. Keep in mind that status colors do not refresh automatically. The page must be reloaded manually to show current statuses or you can use a browser extension that automatically refreshes the page every few seconds.
Can I use Floor Plans for purposes other than building layouts?
Yes. For example, you can upload a photo of a large machine and mark its individual components on it. The image does not need to be a building floor plan.
Is the Floor Plan location shown on Work Orders?
No. Floor Plan location information is not currently displayed on Work Orders or Work Requests.
